Blood donation
What’s the most important thing you did today? Took care of your family, aced that difficult presentation at office, or helped your elderly neighbor with her groceries? How would you like to say you helped save a life — possibly even up to seven lives— today? With donating blood, you can. And what’s more, the whole process takes merely an hour of your time.
In India, research suggests that the country fell short of 1.9 million units of blood in 2016-17, equivalent to 60 tankers — that could have aided more than 320,000 heart surgeries or 49,000 organ transplants. With statistics like this, it becomes all the more necessary for every eligible individual to play their part and donate blood.
Although science and technology has progressed by leaps and bounds, there is no substitute for blood and its components. Without blood donations, our patients could not have life-saving surgeries, be nursed back to health from cancer, or function on a daily basis. In fact, some patients with certain medical conditions, such as sickle cell anemia and clotting diseases require frequent transfusions to stay alive.
Donating blood is simple, and has the potential to save countless lives. Think of how many people you can save if you made donating blood a part of your routine life! World Blood Donation Day is the perfect occasion to start, and our experts are here to help you understand if you are an eligible donor as well.
